Empowering communities with knowledge to protect and restore freshwater biodiversity in Nort East India.

Resource Overview

About NEIFC
The North East India Freshwater Collective (NEIFC) represents a unique coalition of stakeholders from across the North Eastern Region (NER) of India, dedicated to the sustainable conservation of freshwater ecosystems in the region. The NER is a global biodiversity hotspot, home to invaluable aquatic resources that sustain the region's diverse communities; however, these ecosystems face increasing threats from unsustainable practices, climate change, and insufficient action on ecosystem management. The NEIFC’s mission is to bridge these gaps by fostering collaborative knowledge sharing and supporting evidence-based management for these ecosystems.

Our Vision
“By 2030, the North East India Freshwater Collective envisions a future for the NER where knowledge about freshwater biodiversity is proactively collected, shared, enriched, and made accessible to all stakeholders, by mapping resources, collection of data, developing open-access data and knowledge platforms, curating best practices, and disseminating knowledge, for freshwater biodiversity and habitats to be valued, restored, and conserved, ensuring the well-being of both people and nature in an equitable manner.”
